This Zodiac image is taken from “The Hyginus Star Atlas,” also known as “Poeticon Astronomicon,” a book that was first printed in 1475, but was later republished in 1482 with zodiac images to better illustrate the text. You’ll notice that the stars on your zodiac do not follow the real constellations star structure; thus the images in the Hyginus Star Atlas don’t really function as a guide to help the viewer identify them in the night sky. The inclusion of these zodiac illustrations in the Hyginus star atlas, however, did inspire future star atlases to include visual representations of the “characters” represented by the constellations.
