The Holy Ghost

A print from 15th century Germany, as part of the Rosenwald Collection, depicting the Holy Ghost descending from the heavens. A dove is the most common symbol of the Holy Spirit as in the Bible, one would normally appear after noteworthy events, in a bright light coming down from the sky or “out” from the sun. This symbolic manifestation of a dove is known in many religions. In some contexts a dove is the “Sign of Jonas” in reference to Jonah (who’s name literally means Dove). Yeah, that’s the guy that was swallowed by a huge fish. He is a venerated prophet in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
